As a former businessman I can't believe Renzi voted for this piece of garbage legislation. The basic jist of the legislation is some feel good language that allows Members of Congress to say they are doing something about gas prices but will do nothing.

First off SEC. 2. (a) (1)(A) states any price that is

unconscionably excessive

Who defines this phrase? Do you really want to be small businessman who gets dragged under by this vague wording?

Then in SEC. 6. it states that funds will go

administered by the Secretary of Health and Human Services

Health and Human Services? For an accusation of price fixing?

Everything in this bill is the worst kind of headline grabbing grandstanding and has little basis in reality. Those large companies have large legal staff that ensures they have the money to stand and fight any allegation and probably win. Who will lose far more likely a small business person barely keeping their head above water that some DC bureaucrat decided was charging too much for fuel.

It's absolutely shameful Renzi followed the crowd on this bill as a former businessman should simply know better.

It brings to mind the old Libertarian joke that has never really ever been too funny, probably because it's too close to the truth.

PS - The joke: Three men are in jail together as it turns out they all own gas stations. The first one says, "I priced my gasoline too low so I'm in for unfair competition." The second one says, "I priced my gasoline too high, so I'm in for price gouging." The last one says, "I'm in for setting my price the same as another station, so I'm in for price-fixing and collusion."

PPS - Last and certainly not least I am not sure it is still a requirement for the current Congress but one positive thing the Republicans put into effect at Arizona's own John Shadegg urging was that all proposed legislation had to cite where in the Constitution Congress had authority to pass such legislation. Often times the authority listed was rather bogus, but at least they made to an effort to pass a smell test. This bill couldn't realistically ever pass such a check.

And people wonder why I don't trust mainstream media? Here is a good example of why, but I can't say I am surprised I saw them get many stories wrong in my DC time. Thankfully in the internet age people can point out such mistakes and try to make people aware.
